Have you noticed that even though there are many, many more channels than we we were kids (we being those of us who were kids in the 70′s and 80′s) that there really doesn’t seem to be any great increase in the amount of worthy programming? I have at my disposal roughly 200 channels of which I watch about eight with anything close to regularity. (History, Discovery, ESPN. ESPN2, MLB Network, Nickelodeon, TV Land, and FX.) This idea, more than anything, is why I’m amazed at the idea that “LOST”, a show that not only changed TV drama permanently, but also whipped a large portion of the world’s TV watchers into a foamy lather, did not win Emmy’s this year for best drama or best writing.

I’m really going to miss LOST.
Of course, it is childish to talk about LOST and it’s characters like they were real, tangible things, right? But that’s what it feels like when Tuesday night rolls around and there is no way to check in on Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Hugo, and the rest.
The bottom line is that LOST was more that simply a innovative plot with very good writing. The cast of characters, as was the intention I assume, were reflective of every-man – we could all relate to a part or parts of the characters. Hugo’s sort of naive, subdued, Cowardly Lion routine. Sawyer’s constant fight to hide his softer side. Jacks frustrating attempts to adhere to the empirical, even though he was through the looking glass. These and a thousand other statements about the characters we watched for six years all make them hugely accessible to the average person, and more importantly, very likable.
So, as silly and juvenile as it seems, most of us will miss LOST now that the finale has come and gone. But what of that ending? To say that the reviews (both professional and from fans) has been mixed would be a nice way of saying rabidly polarized. I’ve found as many folks who say they loved the ending as I find who hated it. One thing many agree on is that many, many questions went un answered – they just don’t seem to agree on which ones and whether it matters. (more…)

CAUTION: FINALE SPOILERS AHEAD
Last week I posted about some unsolved mysteries from Lostpedia and my guesses as to how or if they would be explained. Here’s how I did…
My Guess: Just what exactly this thing is is not know and I’m guessing will be left up to the viewers’ imagination to decide.
Result: Pretty accurate. Though featured prominently in the finale, no more info was given.
My Guess: Since this creature hasn’t been seen since the early seasons, I’m thinking it constitutes an abandoned plot line. Over six seasons, there is bound to be a couple things that appeared to be important at the time that never ended up being relevant. (more…)

CAUTION: FINALE SPOILERS AHEAD!
After two and a half hours of the actual finale, a couple of hours of watching the two-part pilot in the days before hand, an hour spent watching Jimmy Kimmel because I fell for the “alternate endings” gimmick, and finally the several hours since reading articles about the finale, I believe I’m ready to share my brain droppings.
Just by way of quick, dirty summary…
Island Timeline
Jack heads to look for Desmond, as does Locke. They end up meeting and, rather than add to the melodrama, they agree to proceed together where they deposit Desmond into the heart of the island. Desmond turns off the light, which starts the island sinking, but also makes Locke (aka: the Man in Black) mortal. (more…)

Jack wakes in his LA apartment and upon looking the mirror, sees a cut on his neck.
What is the deal with the cut on Jack's neck?
He joins his son at breakfast who asks about whether Jack will be at the concert, asking him not to be late. Claire, who was crashing there joins them at breakfast and is there for a phone call telling Jack that the airline has found his father’s casket. The call is actually from Desmond.
Back on the beach, Sawyer and Hurley continue their shocked staring while Jack mends Kate’s shoulder (bullet wound). Kate laments over the loss of Jin and Sun, talking about the daughter that Jin never got to meet.
“We have to kill [Locke], Jack,” she says.
“I know,” Jack agrees. (more…)

Since the folks a Lostpedia have decided to lock it down to new comments due to idiot placing spoilers and fake spoilers, let’s take a look here at the list of “Unsolved Mysteries” still left on LOST according to Lostpedia.
This refers to the mysterious cave that Mother showed Jacob and his brother and that Jacob eventually threw is brother into. It has the golden glow, a little of which is present in all men.
Mother says at one point in “Across the Sea” that the source is “Life, death, rebirth…” and then “…the heart of the island…” Most viewers heard this and thought “Yeah, yeah! Blah, blah, blah! Tell us what it is!”
Strictly speaking, the Source is a hole, in a cave, with a stream running into it and a gold light coming out of it.
All we really know is that Mother was there to protect it and eventually passed that job onto Jacob.
Based on the events of seasons 5 and 6, it appears that on of the remaining Losties is the candidate to take Jacob’s place.
My Guess: Just what exactly this thing is is not know and I’m guessing will be left up to the viewers’ imagination to decide. (more…)

Scuttlebutt about and episode with little or no sight of the “regulars” circulated around the Internet in the weeks preceding last night’s airing of “Across the Sea”. This episode, which was advertised as a explanation of Locke’s (The Man in Black) motivations was just that.
The episode begins with a woman afloat among the debris of what appears to be a shipwreck. As she washes ashore, we realize that she is very pregnant. Stumbling through the jungle, she happens upon a 40-ish looking woman who speaks to her in her native language, Spanish. 40-ish woman takes the pregnant woman to her camp to feed her, where we find out the pregnant woman’s name is Claudia.
“How did you get here?” Claudia asks.
“Same way you got here. By accident,” answers the second woman.
The shipwrecked woman was about to give birth to twins as well as the LOST saga
As Claudia begins to press for more information, the second woman explains to her that any answers she give will only lead to more questions. This seems like it could be a subtle message for us, the audience, to address our hopes of closure in the coming weeks.
When Claudia goes into labor, her new host helps her deliver – twins! The host wraps one up in a light colored blanket and the other in a black one. Claudia names the first baby Jacob, but has no name for the second since she was not expecting twins. As we begin to absorb the idea that we’re still not being told a name for the Man in Black, the Host bludgeons Claudia to death with a rock. (more…)
